Luminaria Ceremony

The Remember/Luminaria Ceremony will be at 10:00 p.m. Friday. Below is the ACS description of the ceremony.

One important aspect of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life is the opportunity for people to come together to remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those who have won their battle. One of the most moving parts of the event is the Luminaria Ceremony.

As the sun sets over campsites and darkness falls, the night is brightened by the glow of illuminated bags called luminaria, each bearing the name of someone who has battled cancer. Some celebrate cancer survivors, while others help us honor and remember those gone too soon. All represent someone special who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to fight back in their honor.

Luminaria bags are available with a $5 donation and can be purchased ahead of time online, or at the event. You can decorate the bag yourself if you purchase them at the event.

Bank Night

This is a night where participants can hand in their offline donations and pick up their t-shirts prior to the event. It will occur on Monday, April 25 from 5-7 p.m. in CCC 213.

A few common concerns:
  • Teams are not required to come to Bank Night. It is a chance for participants to pick t-shirts up early and to avoid a longer registration process at Relay.
  • In order to receive their t-shirt, a participant must have paid their $10 registration fee and raised at least $50 (online and/or offline).
  • Teams do not need to come together or hand in their donations together.
  • A person can drop off donations/pick up t-shirts for another as long as the other has paid their registration fee and raised the minimum $50.
  • If you did not pre-order a t-shirt but raised $50, you will be given a ticket to redeem for a shirt. The extra t-shirts will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Theme Laps

Theme Laps occur at the top of each hour from 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. and are a fun way to incorporate the Destinations theme of Relay. Teams will receive a stamp in their Passport (more info to come!) for participating in activities such as theme laps. The schedule is listed below:
